Nairobi, 30th September 2026...Equity Afya has launched its second standalone community pharmacy at Bruce House, Cardinal Otunga Road, Nairobi CBD, as it advances its ambition of establishing 1,000 pharmacies across East and Central Africa. The launch marks another step in Equity Afya’s commitment to making quality, affordable and accessible healthcare more convenient for communities.
Speaking at the launch, Equity Afya Managing Director Dr. Denis Ogolla said Equity is keen to support and finance healthcare entrepreneurship as part of its efforts to bring medical care closer to where people live, work and do business.
“This new pharmacy is about proximity and convenience, bringing healthcare closer to where people live, work and socialise. Our ambition goes beyond treatment. It is about building a culture of preventive care,” said Dr Ogolla, adding that the new pharmacy demonstrates how empowering healthcare specialists can contribute to building an ecosystem that transforms healthcare.
He added that the initiative further underscores Equity Group’s long-term vision of building resilient health systems that empower individuals, support communities and drive inclusive socio-economic development.
Dr Benson Musyoka, a pharmacist at Equity Afya Bruce House in Nairobi CBD, said the milestone marks an important step towards bringing quality pharmaceutical services closer to people in the heart of Nairobi CBD.
“Our promise is simple, but deeply meaningful: to provide quality, affordable and accessible pharmaceutical products and services. Every customer who walks through these doors should feel confident that they will receive genuine, quality medicines, trusted professional advice and caring, excellent service,” said Dr. Musyoka, who is also in charge of Equity Afya Clinic Mavoko, Equity Afya Clinic Mlolongo and Equity Afya Clinic at Signature Mall.
Dr Musyoka said healthcare does not end when a patient sees a doctor or receives a prescription but is complete only when the patient can access the right medicine at the right time, at an affordable price and with appropriate professional guidance. “Through Equity Afya Pharmacy, we are committed to closing that last mile in the healthcare journey and helping make better health more attainable for everyone,” he said.
Dr Jaimini Gohil, Chief Pharmacist at Equity Afya, welcomed the new pharmacy and invited healthcare partners and prospective franchisees to work with Equity Afya in expanding access to affordable, quality and accessible healthcare. The launch represents a strategic expansion beyond Equity Afya’s existing network of 154 medical centres across Kenya and the DRC, each with an in-house pharmacy, into dedicated community-facing retail pharmacies.
“The new pharmacy offers prescription medicine, Over the Counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins and supplements, wellness products and baby care, as well as complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar screening, enabling customers to take proactive steps towards managing their health, make informed decisions and seek timely medical support through referrals to Equity Afya clinics,” said Dr Gohil, adding that the pharmacy will also provide wellness and nutrition guidance to encourage healthy living, prevent illness and enhance overall wellbeing.
The second standalone community pharmacy builds on the first one located at Britam Towers in Nairobi’s Upperhill area and Equity Afya model, which is a direct outcome of Equity Group Foundation’s long-standing investment in education, leadership development and human capital through the Equity Leaders Program.
As Equity Afya continues to expand across Kenya and the East and Central Africa region, dedicated community pharmacies will complement its healthcare network by bringing essential medicines and preventive health services closer to communities while strengthening access to quality-assured pharmaceutical care.
